What is your biggest barrier to eating right?
For me, its making sure I schedule the time as if it is an important meeting with a client.
Today I’m enjoying the bounty of my garden. Without any effort on my part, Mother Nature gave me grapes, apples, raspberries, and blueberries. So I’m juicing the apples and making smoothies with the grapes (they are kind of tart and need some sweetening with banana in the smoothie!)
There is a particular kind of life essence in foods fresh from nature. They have the maximum amount of Sattva – purity, life, harmony, radiance. Sattvic foods contain prana – vital life force.
When I don’t eat enough Sattvic foods, I feel tired, cranky, and unmotivated. My business activities suffer. If I go on too long without the power of Sattva, my confidence sinks and self-doubt creeps back in. I gain weight and I start to feel heavy. This type of food helps me stay on track. It keeps me light, energized, and creative.
Sattva is a kind of energy. According to Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, everything in the universe is made up of energy – including ourselves and the foods we eat. Sattvic foods are foods in their whole form. They embody and emit the qualities of goodness and light. When we eat Sattvic foods these qualities are assimilated into our beings.
The benefits of eating the Sattvic way include: the calming of our minds, mental clarity, a feeling of contentedness, spiritual rejuvenation, and health on all levels.
How to incorporate more Sattvic energy into your day:
1) Eat a new vegetable this week. Or one you haven’t had in a loooong time.
2) Eat whole grains instead of flours made from grains. Whole grains have not had the life energy stripped out of them through processing. So instead of a bagel tomorrow morning, have some cooked oatmeal.
3) Replace a salty packaged snack with nuts. Nuts contain the vital life energy of the plants they come from. Nuts are tiny packages of cosmic energy.
4) Eat fruit. That is all.
